Day thirty-six of the writing streak
I really want to reach the point at which I can finally say that the first draft of my novel is done, but before I can do that I really feel like I need to figure out this subplot that I’ve been working on for the past few days. The problem is that I feel like I may have landed in a hole, and I’m having a lot of trouble getting out of it.
Finally, what I did today was to bring this to my boyfriend, and we spoke about it for a while.
In general I don’t really talk with him (or anybody) about my work in progress, especially when it still feels so messy, but today I was so stuck that I just needed to talk it out with somebody. In the end I think it was helpful. We spoke and brainstormed together for a while, and even though I didn’t like any of the ideas we came up with at the time, later during the day I finally found the solution to my blockade, which turned out to be a combination of one of my boyfriend’s ideas with one of mine. Individually they didn’t convince me at all, but put together I think they shaped into something that could be nice. I don’t know how good or bad this new approach really is, but right now I’m excited about it and I think it could fit perfectly with the rest of the plot, which is everything I could have asked for at this point. So in the evening I worked on writing that new idea and finally working towards resolving that subplot that has been gnawing at me for months.
