Day nine of the writing streak
I got my writing done early today. In fact, it was the first thing I did after my morning dog walk and exercising. In the morning I completed two 30-minute writing sessions, with a relaxing break between both.
Although I wrote quite a bit in the morning, I felt like my progress was slow since I’ve been going back and forth nonstop on a scene for way too long, and this indecision hindered my progress since the version that I decide to go with will directly affect a big chunk of the story.
In the evening I still hadn’t made up my mind, so I ended up talking about it with my boyfriend. The thing is that, since I’ve decided not to give any details about my novel until I have all the story laid out, there’s lots about the novel that my boyfriend doesn’t know. But after a few minutes of me doing my best to catch him up and familiarise him with the context as well and as efficiently as possible, we were able to talk about it, and he actually helped me out a lot. Talking with my boyfriend, telling him about the two scenario options, and debating with him about both, unlocked something in my head which suddenly made it very easy for me to know which scenario was the better option.
After our talk I ended up reopening my Scrivener document and I quickly wrote the scene that I had finally decided on and that was currently super clear in my head. It was already late, but I was worried that if I waited until tomorrow, I would forget things or I would lose the wave of inspiration that had suddenly washed over me.
I don’t really know how long I ended up writing, but I think that I wrote about 1500 words, which together with the 1000 words of the morning sessions, brought my daily total to 2500, which is a very impressive word count for me.
I had really hesitated whether or not to talk with my boyfriend about my doubts, and in the aftermath, I’m so glad that I did.
Not only did he help me identify which scenario to choose, but talking with him about my novel, even with the little information he has about it, I could see that he was excited about it, and this made me feel even more excited about my novel since talking about it out loud made the story feel more real.
I am honestly looking forward so much to the day when my story is finally ready and I can truly share it with my boyfriend. He has supported me and my dream since day one, and I feel extremely lucky to have him by my side.
