Today I spent most of my writing session writing longhand. I didn’t get any new scenes done, but instead I invested my time and energy working out a few very important answers for my main character. They may have seemed like basic “why” and “how” questions, but in the end they turned out to be loadbearing, and I believe that the answers are directly linked to how my main character ends up on the path she’s walking.
After today, I feel much closer to several of my characters, as if having understood something crucial about them.
I don’t yet know what the rest of the story holds, nor what I’ll be writing tomorrow, but more than ever before, I feel excited to find out not what happens, but rather how what happens will affect my characters.
