Day five of the 7-day writing streak challenge

I almost didn’t continue my writing streak today. I had been thinking about it all afternoon, and yet I kept procrastinating starting to write.

I actually find it so fascinating how my brain just keeps wanting to procrastinate writing, when it’s clearly something that I really enjoy doing and that I absolutely want to be doing much more of.

I think that part of it is fear, because every time I think about opening my document to begin writing, I always worry that, once I’m in front of my screen, today might be one of those days during which I have no clue about what to write, or that I will read something I wrote the previous day or session and I will find it rubbish and therefore lose the courage to continue. I really don’t like having these thoughts or worries, but they are part of my reality at the present time, and I think I have to get better at just letting them wash over me and do my best anyway, even on the days when I do end up not knowing what to write or feeling like my writing is rubbish.

But anyway, I digress. What I actually wanted to say is that, even though I almost didn’t write anything today, I finally did open my document and I managed to complete a full half hour of writing. I started writing at 10:30 PM, which is really late for me, but I feel so much better and prouder of myself now that I did. And it turns out my worries for today were absolutely useless since my fingers didn’t stop typing from the moment I opened Scrivener until the moment my timer rang.

I’m really happy I wrote today and that I completed day five of my writing streak. And I really had a lot of fun doing it too. I’m trying to quickly write this post so that I can go to sleep, but I’m actually considering working on my novel a little longer before I do. I’m not sure that I should because I have to get up early tomorrow, but I really feel like it.

Well, let’s see what I end up doing.

For now I’ll finish this post here, and I’ll be back tomorrow again for some more writing updates.
