Day four of the 7-day writing streak challenge & 50.000 words milestone

I had a lot of trouble writing today. For some reason I felt like I had lost the momentum I’d felt during the last couple of writing days, and even after I’d finally stopped procrastinating and finally got to writing, my first writing session barely produced anything at all since I kept deleting everything I typed. I pushed through the entire half hour anyway, hoping that it would get better once I was in it, but it didn’t, and when my timer rang I was fully ready to close my document and call it a day.

While I ate dinner that night I watched a video of a writer that I recently rediscovered on YouTube, and about halfway through it I hit pause and re-opened my scrivener document to get writing. Watching this author talk about her writing day, her process, and just seeing her passion for her own writing and novel, gave me the boost I was missing that day.

I opened my scrivener document and this time I completely entered a state of absolute flow. I ended up writing for an additional two sessions, bringing my total time spent writing today to 1 hour and a half, and a total daily count of 2.000 words.

The reason why I mention my daily wordcount is because, apart from the fact that 2.000 words are so impressive for me to get done in one day, this also brought my document word-count to a total of a little over 50.000 words. That’s a new milestone achieved! I’m so happy and proud of myself. I’ve never gotten this far into any story before, and I’m starting to feel like this is actually slowly building up to something that could one day resemble a book!

I’m really glad I pushed myself to write today, even though I didn’t feel like it at all. And I’m especially glad that I decided to go back to writing immediately when I felt the wave of motivation hit me from watching the video, because now I am finishing the day with a big smile on my face.

That’s day four of the 7-day writing streak challenge done!  Now I’m going to go finish watching the video I had started earlier, and I’ll talk to you tomorrow for day five of the writing streak.
